Run Mattermost with PostgreSQL in one click
Team chat you run yourself: Mattermost Team Edition with its own PostgreSQL database, on its own HTTPS address, with voice calls and screen sharing working from the start. Pick the template, give it a name and deploy; the database and calls are set up for you. Ours was running in 49 seconds.
What you get
The open-source Team Edition, as Mattermost publishes it, with nothing changed.
- Mattermost Team Edition 11.11, the official image
- Its own PostgreSQL 17 database, connected for you
- Voice calls and screen sharing in direct messages (Mattermost Calls), with no network setup on your side
- Its own HTTPS address from the first minute
- Messages, files, settings, plugins and the search index kept on disk across restarts
- Mattermost's desktop and mobile apps connect to that address
Deploy it from the template
Sign in, then Stacks, Create, From a template, and pick Mattermost + PostgreSQL. Give the app a name. On the database card the username is already yours and the password is made for you if you leave it empty; both are under Connection details on the stack page afterwards. Then deploy. Uppcoder tells Mattermost where its database is and what its own address is, and opens a port for its call audio, so there is no config.json to edit, no database to create by hand and no firewall to open.
Make yourself the admin
The app starts private: only you can open it. Open its address and create an account: the first account on a new Mattermost is the system admin. Create your team and channels before anyone else arrives.
Bring your team in
Switch the app from Private to Public on the stack page. In Mattermost, click your team's name at the top left, then Invite people, then Copy invite link, and send that link. Whoever opens it chooses View in Browser and creates their account, straight into your team. Open sign-up is off from the start, so only people with the link can join. Try the link in a private window: in a browser already signed in to Mattermost it just opens the team as you. Invites by email need Mattermost's email settings (System Console, SMTP) first.
What Team Edition leaves out
Said up front: these are Mattermost's own limits for the free edition, not ours.
- Calls in channels and group messages: Mattermost keeps these for its paid licences; Team Edition has calls in direct messages
- Playbooks: it needs a paid Mattermost licence, so it stays off
Questions people ask
Can I run Mattermost without setting up a server?
Yes. Uppcoder starts Mattermost and its PostgreSQL database for you from a template, on its own HTTPS address. There is no server, Docker or database to set up yourself.
Is Mattermost free?
Mattermost Team Edition is open source and free to use. On Uppcoder you pay only for the plan the app runs on.
Does it come with a database?
Yes, its own PostgreSQL 17 database, connected for you when it is deployed.
Do calls work?
Yes. Voice calls and screen sharing work in direct messages, with no network setup on your side: Uppcoder opens a port for the call audio when the app is deployed. Calls in channels need a paid Mattermost licence.
